You get a membership number the same week and an introduction to the rep who covers your shift. That is the whole of it.

Who is my rep?
Whoever covers your site and shift. If you are not sure, ask for the branch and we will point you at the right person the same day.
What can I bring to a rep?
Anything about pay, hours, safety, or how you are being treated. If it turns out not to be a union matter we will say so rather than let it sit.
Will my manager be told I asked?
No. Nothing goes further than the rep you speak to unless you ask for it to.
